Surviving Minnesota!

Few questions for you winter tolerant folks... do you feed in or out of the coop? I hear mostly out, but winter too? How about water? I can run extension cord in winter but no power so was thinking water inside at least in winter and switching out to prevent freezing (horizontal nipples). Looking at grandpa’s and or bucket no waste feeders once chicks bit bigger. Thoughts?

Feed and water in the run totally in warm months, winter I have a horizontal nipple waterer with a bird bath heater in it, also water inside the coop in winter on a home made cookie tin heater for the old lazy girls that won't go out if it's 20 below or colder. In winter I wrap the run with plastic about 3/4 ways around. I do have power to the coop.

Alternate method to prevent water freezing - no electric needed.

All of my feed and water is outside year-round. I run an extension cord and a utility heater in my 5 gallon bucket with horizontal nipples.

They don't like going out much in the snow, but I figure if they get hungry or thirsty enough they'll make their way out. But they do not go much beyond the feeder or waterer, which are just outside the coop.

I am SO over winter. Just wanted to make that clear in case anyone’s not sure about my position...

I may have a few lying around...
I am glad to see you are not against the plan.

I am going use the day to finish off a speech I am giving on Saturday at the Veterans Party of Minnesota’s state convention in St. Cloud...

I am thinking it would be a good place to introduce the more radical mandatory burning of used tires.
