Surviving Minnesota!

We had a bird fight today over grape jelly. This was wild birds and not domesticated ones.

I have a Baltimore Oriole that has laid claim to the grape jelly. Today there was a bright yellow bird fighting with him over the jelly. I thought it was a gold finch, but it looked wrong and had a black “cowl” under his neck. In addition finches could care less about grape jelly.

I took a couple pictures but I had to use the telephoto part if the IPhone.

I found out it is an Orchard Oriole male in it’s second year.

First time I have seen an Orchard Oriole as I recall.

oh good Banty. Hiya!
Weather looks like it might be in the poopy side Thursday. How disappointing! I wanted a nice evening down at the coop Thursday for the ladies. Fingers crossed for a little break....
Been a while, that's for sure. :frow

My flock has hit 65 birds now and I still have more that I'm buying/hatching. I have guineas again, too... neighbour came over with a box and I couldn't say no. I don't have much hope that they'll be any sweeter this go-round but who knows? Maybe they'll reform.

Ok the above post shows I know nothing about Orioles.. here is a video of the “Baltimore Oriole”. According to Stokes bird guide book... this is an Orchard Oriole... everyone has lied to me my whole life.. or Stokes is wrong...

The bottom is the young Oriole. I did not know they change color at 2. Or Stokes lied again..

I get both types of Orioles at my feeders. I give them orange halves and sugar water nectar - the same stuff I feed my hummingbirds.

Jerry I’m afraid you would fine rain and 40-50 up north. Time to get the winter jackets out again. All the new baby leaves are unfurling . Nature’s first green is gold. So true. I just love it. Mosquito hatch this past week,

My Minnesota girls want to still proceed with drinking with chickens day tomorrow despite nw winds and overcast. Hardy up north girlies. I’ll maybe do a campfire. But they can’t drop my chickens in the fire!!
