Morning . I no longer want to ice fish . Age I guess . We never have enough ice to drive on . So just sleds and tents . No luxury ice houses here . So sitting on a bucket in the open or in a tent in a chair no longer appeals to me .

I moved up from buckets to lawn chairs. I have both the three leg and four leg ones with me.
That way I can chose my comfort depending on the fish I am after.

DS is like my Granpa Elmer. He is out on the early ice poking it with a spud (scaring the crap out of his mother) at barely ready to fish. Luckily we have neighbors that are more crazy for it than we are and again our bay freezes first as the wind is blocked here. He loves to ice fish. We've got him the gear and equipment through a 3 year christmas stretch that makes his life alot easier I guess too. So it's a pleasure for him to be out there. And the fresh Crappies in December are welcome in the kitchen. :D

Cold morning here nearly -20. Weather Channel app said -12 for us. Ha. We know better....

Let the birds out. My little New Hampshire has broken toes again I think or arthritis . The feet are pretty gnarled bumpy at the joints. Last winter she must have nearly broke all of them. I'm not sure if she needed more calcium (drained her bones from laying too much) or what exactly. I've had heavier roosters get the broken toes but not a (lighter) hen. Despite oyster shell supplements and what's added to Layena. So that's why I'm thinking calcium deficiency for her. She's just one that maybe burned through it fast or her body redirected calcium to the eggs too much. IDK. She is also one of Minnie's Urch Line NH's. Little bigger body on those girls. She's going to be 3 this spring.
I do love going into the coop and picking her up and helping her down though. She's lovely and fluffy soft. I'll have to throw more soft straw in the jumping down corner. See if that gives her a little more relief. I do have a bit of frozen poop cement thing going on at the drop down spot.

I lost two young roosters today.
Their combs were rough, feet weren’t great. I thought I would go the winter without losing many.

Guess I was wrong. I only lost one rooster before these two this year.

The weather app is way off today. It’s just water retaining device in a river cold out there.

My tank heater on the bobcat went to tank heater heaven. I hate the idea of fixing that in the cold.

All this winter the weather dorks have been wrong, it's always at least 5 degrees colder than what has been forecast - when the forecast is for below zero temps. Poor Bitsy! she is going through a hard molt and I know she molted this fall, she was in beautiful feathers. Why the heck is she molting again now! poor little thing.
