Surviving Minnesota!

Is anyone near the Hutchinson area able to recommend an avian vet? I've Googled and asked around with little to no luck.

You will have a hard time getting an “avian” vet. While Minnesota has a quite a few, they all work for the large poultry companies. They concentrate on flock health and not on individual birds.

What are you looking to treat?

I find, and I think most here agree, we need to treat our birds ourselves the best we can. Depending on what the problem is culling becomes a very real option if the bird is suffering or their is a possibility of the disease spreading.

Previously mentioned Dom rooster also really likes being a dad. Notice all those white spots on these backyard mixed chicks that hatched a week ago. Maybe one or two could be full Dom but otherwise they all hatched from white or green eggs so I know he is the daddy to most of this bunch!

The WW tells me you lost some birds last night, sorry for the loss. May you find and punish the thieve soon.

Good Luck

Most vets worth their salt will try a little something something to help out a bird. Ironically in our little small town though we have a vet that visits from Grand Rapids and she actually has that credentialling! Amazing luck to have her....but then I weighed out her prospective bill with my Rooster who was a $4 and 65 cent chick and was about to go elsewhere. She then did offer to prescribe without seeing him and instead of a $60 antibiotic we got the $30. Lotsa middle ground to be found for sure. I did like that Rooster....

Ridgewater college up in Willmar does have a clinic with a Vet that teaches Vet tech program and I know they have an Avian study section for their students. DD is going there in the fall.... I'm not sure if that little Clinic on the campus is opened up with the COVID deal but you might be surprised.

Yes! All 12 of my chicks in a grow out pen. They were between 4-6 weeks old. Had just moved 6 of them out just a couple nights before. I think the kids had let our Yeti dog in the garage for the night. It also appears one of my brown leghorns is missing. It really is upsetting. But the 6 chicks that I had bought were at least 50% off so not much money lost but we were excited to watch them grow out!

I finally beat my Mother to the rhubarb, I needed to only put a padlock on the gate to the garden.

I made rhubarb crisp:

I needed to sample a few pieces to make sure I did it right.

I am making sauce now,

I have the dehydrator full, but the darn motor stopped on it, so I am off to fleetfarm to get a new one. This one didn’t even last 25 years!

I want a strawberry rhubarb pie please.

Good Morning!
No new bird deaths besides the 12 chicks and 2 hens that are missing. But I did lock them up good and am keeping them in all day for the next few days. They still have a run but not the extended not so predator proof run.
Frustrated that my husband doesn’t want to trap it until fall when its fur will be Thicker. It does have three babies right now but I don’t really care about the babies. They’ll just cause problems later. So now I have to move and set up the portable fence netting and electrify it to be able to extend their run and keep out the rif raf. At least I have the tools to do so. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Also as it has been a few years since I have been here regularly our 5 children have also grown and are now 16,15,13, and the twins are 10. Here is how they stay busy as Dad puts them to work. We run a construction company. The two girls 16&13 are in the back and son is behind the chute. They are pouring an on grade slab for a house in the neighborhood.
