Surviving Minnesota!

Well well. We are killing some mosquito larvae now... hopefully... aren’t we? -21 F ? All this next week nothing above 0 and then drops like a stone again next weekend to ensure I can’t cross country ski in the weekend again. 😔

Mother Nature having her fun.

The dog and cat whipping outside quick and back in quicker.
I however, do not need to haul warm water to the coop. Or collect cracked eggs. Feel my nasal passages freeze and crackle.
I do miss checking on the fluffy butts. Checking for warm feet under breast feathers on the roost. Stirring in clean sweet straw to the bedding. And sitting in my carhartts watching them for a bit to be sure they were alright.

Well I’m reminded that maybe I should find some of that orange squash seed that festal uses for their pumpkin pie filler. I told FIL I’d get a seed pack of that for him.
Yesterday morning I saw the most big and beautiful fox in our driveway. Apparently the neighbor has been feeding him. Sigh.

Hand fed fox make fantastic hats.

We are currently experiencing a heat wave here at 12:15 as the temp is a balmy -3 with bright sunshine. My flock has been confined to their coop and run for 3 days and they are not too happy about it. Coop is cozy with no moisture, but I suspect my mature Marans rooster will suffer frost damage to his comb. We have had lows of less than -20 for a few nights now.
