Survivor 20: Heroes vs. Villains

I read online that the heros vs villians was filmed before Russel's first season aired, so the players knew nothing of his game in his season or who the heck he even was.

Colby had Russel's game pegged at the reunion. Russel didn't win because he didn't play to win. He played to get to the end but not to win. Russel's ego told him he would get the win. He was delusional to think that a jury of people who hated him would give him the win.

I didn't know about that till I started reading this thread (it was posted right after it happened). Boy backstage at the live event last night must have been interesting.

Well, if winning her first season and the first million didn't change her, I would imagine the second win wouldn't either!

that would be fun to watch. I've seen all seasons except season 1. I imagine that Season One would seem very different to fans now: no hidden immunity idols, no real strategy, puny sets.

"No real strategy"? The first season featured the original and ultimate strategist, Richard Hatch! Not only did Richard show that cast how to play the game, he showed every future cast -- his alliance strategy has been used in every single Survivor season since. If you can get a copy of the original season of Survivor, do it. It is utterly fascinating to watch Richard maneuver the entire game (and ultimately win at final tribal council over a very popular contestant). It's also interesting to see how clueless the other contestants were about his strategy, and when it finally dawns on them what is going on.

They do. Older seasons are "marathoned" on a cable network.

Richard was the only player who understood the game at that time, and I give him props for having a strategy from the very beginning. Everyone one else (from what I have seen, anyway), was just so overwhelmed. But nowadays, everyone *should* have some idea of what type of game they will play even before the game begins. I've never seen Season one from beginning to end. I've been meaning to buy it for my mom on dvd and watch it with her (she's my Survivor buddy
