I read online that the heros vs villians was filmed before Russel's first season aired, so the players knew nothing of his game in his season or who the heck he even was.

Colby had Russel's game pegged at the reunion. Russel didn't win because he didn't play to win. He played to get to the end but not to win. Russel's ego told him he would get the win. He was delusional to think that a jury of people who hated him would give him the win.
I heard in the news about a month ago that Russell was arrested for Public Intox...in Louisiana I believe, New Orleans. I'm sure that the taping of this season was over at that point. Must stink to be hated so badly. Guess you reap what you sow for sure.

I didn't know about that till I started reading this thread (it was posted right after it happened). Boy backstage at the live event last night must have been interesting.
