swamp river farm thread

so it has been a minute since I posted here all of the animals are doing great nothing really going on, except that Salem our feral cat that we were told would never trust us is warming up to me and not acting like the same cat. She has been rubbing up against me and asking for attention i am very proud and don't regret the hours the past 2 or 3 years i have spent with her.

Anyways there is a property that our property has direct access to we call it the field even though it is infested with brush and thorns, anyways the idea is to talk to the property owner a sweet old lady, and possibly lease it from her we would then build a small pasture to own our 2 dream animals some Nigerian dwarf goats and 2 mini donkeys. The only problem is her neighbor's house is right in front of the field the town seems to be ok with the idea based on the town laws but i was curious what you guys thought.

Make absolutely certain the town laws allow it. Although I had the blessing of the city attorney in the town where I formerly lived, and although the neighbors liked my miniature goats, a Realtor discovered an ordinance clause that said I couldn't have my goats within a specific distance of any neighbor's existing or POTENTIALLY existing building.

My neighbors had no intention of building anything near my property lines and said so. But the Realtor had a house -- three properties away from mine -- that he believed would be more sellable if my four little goats were gone. I was given two weeks to rehome them.

The happy ending is: a friend took my goats until I bought an acreage where my goats lived with me for the rest of their lives.

so i just contacted the land owners they are going to contact a real estate agent and a attorney then get back to us

lot going on today so first predators, lots of coyote sitings nearby there was a red-tailed hawk stalking our birds today luckily the dog scared it off

then our guineas the other day one of our guineas franklin started hobbling around on one leg he is using the other a little but not as much he also tucked his head in and started backing up while facing a wall never seen anything like it

and rocky tonight he was getting bullied he went in and sat down in the corner of the stall
he had his head down staring at the corner so i went to check on him keep in mind these birds are not very tame so we can't handle them but rocky was letting me pet him and play with his legs

we also are planning on getting 2 or 3 more hens for two reasons one four chickens are not enough to supply all our customers two three of our four hens lay brown eggs one lays blue so variety, the thing is no chickens that look anything like RIRs, Black sexlinx, leghorn, or cream legbar which makes it hard

slight problem our guinea hen broke his toe and will be in the dog crate we have for another few weeks but we are getting more chickens in a few days and were going to keep them in that crate
  • duck cage is currently housing 3 ducks
  • chicken cage is currently housing 4 chickens
  • guinea cage currently housing 17 guineas
  • quarantine crate currently housing 1 guinea hen
so when we got the ducks and when we got the chickens they all stayed in the current duck cage and that would be great but where would we put the ducks since drake currently wants to chase everyone now keep in mind all these birds free range together so they could be housed together i just dont know who to move where without causing too much of an issue

what do you guys think?

Looks like we're leaping into spring so let's go over how many eggs we are getting and who is laying

3 of the 4 chickens Lacy, Whitney, and Amber are laying almost every day but I haven't found an egg from our cream legbar Greta in at least a week

our female runner duck Poppy is laying pretty much every day and Daisy our jumbo pekin doesn't lay consistently but will give us an egg every few days

about 3 guinea eggs a day not much to say there I know we have 2 hens named Burst and Kitkat from about 2 years ago now and one older hen named Bermuda

welcome our three new 2 month old chicks hopefully all hens they come from bellie acres farm in ct highly recommend if you are in the area
