I have had several do this after cord treatment. It is generally a vitamin B1 or thiamine deficiency. Get a b complex supplement and start giving it immediately or it will continue to get worse till she can't walk at all. Please help. One of my 5 week old SFH chicks is lame. Over the past couple of days I noticed she was having trouble getting up and down the ramp into the coop, but today I noticed one foot is curled up and weak.
They were on two rounds of Corid for coccidiosis, but their last dose was about 2 weeks ago. Could this be related?
I don't know what to do for her. She's determined enough to get to food and water, but is limping badly. I don't see any signs of injury. It just seems like the foot is weak and curled up. Is there a cure for this and what could have caused it?
Thank you! Do you have any recommendations on what to use and how much to give?I have had several do this after cord treatment. It is generally a vitamin B1 or thiamine deficiency. I always just used the durvet brand b complex injectible. I give 1/10th a cc or ml to a chicken via injection in the breast. If you're not comfortable injecting it you can put it carefully in their beak, make sure not to aspirated them.Thank you! Do you have any recommendations on what to use and how much to give?
Thanks for the advice. I brought her in this morning, which gives her undisturbed, easy access to food and water. I started her on Poly Vi Sol today, as well as some egg yolks and wheat germ. I really hope this works. Also, try bringing her inside so you can make sure she's getting food and water. We had a hen go lame for almost 3 weeks once - never figured out what it was, and no other chickens were affected. She's living a happy life right now because she had food and water within easy reach. Good luck!
So thrilled for you, Alpine Chicken! They're so beautiful! I hate you had the horrible rat fiasco, but it looks like you ended up with a wonderful hatch in the end. Mama is lovely, too - love those splash!
