Swedish Flower Hen Thread

I have one 7 wk old SFH cockerel and he is already starting to try. It really doesn't sound like a crow yet but he's trying. I heard somebody refer to their cockerel learning to crow that it sounds like a kazoo stuck in a trumpet and that is pretty much what he sounds like I also have a 7 wk old cream legbar cockerel and he is trying as well, though his is more of a screeching sound. I thought that was kind of young because my last batch of 4 mixed breed Roo's only one of them ever did and they were 5 months old when they died but they only had 2 hens with them. My two now have a total of 11 hens/poulets. Some of them are 7 wks old too and the others range in age from 17wks to 2 yrs.

Our newest additions, a trio of SFH 2 hens and a rooster (I hope). I love their coloring and can't wait till next year when we can hopefully hatch a few chicks. These guys are all greenfire farms line, is there a place or person where you can find other lines to add to these. I have been trying to do research and it's limited from what I can find.

I am south of Sacramento, Madera area. I have a few pullets now, 40 babies too young to tell and 50 eggs in the incubator. I have birds from three different breeders at this time. Pullets are $40 each.

Absolutely! There is also a Swedish Flower Hen FB page where there are quite a few breeders. There are some of us on here also. I have just hatched out a pile of SFH chicks and have more hatching as we speak. What part of the country are you in?

BTW, welcome to BYC, but most especially to the wonderful world of SFH's where every chick is like a box of chocolates...you never know what they will end up looking like!

Hello we are located in Iowa I'm excited for them to start laying. Do the hens go broody much? I have heard the eggs are hard to hatch in an incubator.

I've heard both SFH and Cemani are had to hatch in an incubator, we have some silkies and I'm hoping they will hatch some out for us if the incubator doesn't work.

Looks like you are getting some good advice here. I know a great breeder but he is here in ND and I am not sure if he ships out or not. They have a facebook page Sir Windsor Farms or Zach Duhe in stanley ND. Great people and they would definitely try to help you out if they could. I know that at least some of his bloodlines are from Greenfire as well but not sure if they all are.

Welcome to BYC and to SFH's in general. I have 2 at this point but will be looking for more or breeding in the spring!!! I just love mine!

I'm not looking at this time...too late in the year for new chicks for me. It gets really cold really quick here. I will be looking next year though and would like to get some different bloodlines, do you ship chicks or do you know of anyone else on here that may be closer to ND? TIA

@SHERRING7712 and @gypc84
Several of us have birds that were brought in from Germany. Where are you located? @KYTinpusher here on BYC has some but there are several others. You may be located close to someone!
