Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Here are some pictures of my chick from this morning. 4 1/2 weeks old. I'll try to post a before and after pick. Besides the regular is this a pullet or cockerel time old question is this normal for an almost all rusty and grey colored chick to turn mostly white? She had rust colored down but look at the rust on her wings probably a cockerel correct? Will a different color come in behind the white feathers? I'm so confused by this chicks color. I so badly want to keep him/her but I probably wont be able to.

Yes, I get that... but the expectations are still the same. Eyes should not be covered. And you will end up with 50% hatched from that hen, crested still.

Those were just supposed to be examples of the crest.

The change in color is normal.

Last pic is quite a large comb. You should start to see some red in it pretty soon. Usually by 5.5 weeks mine are very discernible.

Looking at the pics again... I think you're correct in that he may not be staying.

OK, I wasn't sure if you thought it might make a difference what gender had the crest. I would prefer my crested to be a hen instead of my boy.

Possibly only locally at the 4H county fair and state fair, since I already have SQ BBS LF cochins that I've sunk a lot of money into. Mostly I will breed them and sell chicks locally. Maybe as an adult I would show them but definently not now.

I'm not sure what to expect with the crests. Both parents are crested and this is the 3rd chick hatched with a crest at hatch. What does that mean for them? Lol
One hen has a crest that covers her eyes, I have to trim it. The other hen has a smaller crest and so does the roo.
