Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Well I'm glad I have a non-crested cock and a crested hen!
So would it be best that for all my breeders to only have crested hens and non-crested cocks?

That's what I was told. My friend said that you don't want a crested roo if you have any crested hens as a just in case.

I personally would keep a crested hen. But I wouldn't want all my hens to be crested because for me 50% crested is too much.

So I would also not want a crested cockerel because that equals 50% as well.

I will note that on my grown birds I do NOT breed side sprigs forward.

OK, I wasn't sure if you thought it might make a difference what gender had the crest. I would prefer my crested to be a hen instead of my boy.
You show chickens? Are ya thinking about showing SFH? That would be great!

I wasn't aware you could show SFH, since they aren't in the APA standards. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Very exciting! I'm right there with you. I have 7 in the incubator. Pretty sure that one is a quitter, but I'm giving it a couple more days to be sure. Mine will hatch on Sat the 22nd.
We have our own club! I have 6 under a broody hen. Hatch date is May 1.

Just thought I'd add a then and now update on my two chicks. The top pictures were taken at 3 weeks, the bottom pictures were taken at 6 weeks.
I can't believe what a difference just a few weeks can make!

I thought maybe in a category like... "any other" or something to that effect.

I have never been to a show... yet. But it seems like others are showing lavenders (or self blue) in that type of setting. So I could be wrong. But I thought hey, great way to get them out there.... if possible.

There are still some standards to be expected.

Yes, you could under AOEB. That's where I show my Ameraucanas since they didn't really have a category.

I was sold a bird a man claimed to be 'Swedish Flower', but I'm thinking...no. Does the Swedish Flower come in an all-black variety with, like, two white wing feathers? I'll try to get a picture, but this is one ratty-looking month-old chick.

Wow! One of my SFH girls did in fact go broody!!

I've been so excited to share with the fellow flower crowd as I know the question was asked recently.

Took me almost 4 days to break her.

Because it's not the right time for her/me... never mind my other 4 broody's.

And... my broody FBCM successfully hatched 3 bouncing baby flowers!

She had them out to pasture at 3 days old. Will post a couple pics later.

Hi.

Sorry you might have been scammed... I have been once before myself, specifically for Flowers before I was more familiar with the breed.

I will say that the colors do change drastically as they age and are completely different from the day they were born. As well as the flowers do start to come in a little later on some of them. Of course there are poor quality birds where people don't care what they breed and so you may not get the pretty flowers associated with them. A black based chick with some white could end up being the Snow Leopard variety. Of course will give a more educated opinion after seeing your pic. Just trying to give the benefit of the doubt.
