Swedish Flower Hen Thread

I rejuvenated the indoor dust box with a bit of new peat moss and a small amount of ash this morning. Just went out there and found mom teaching the kids how to dust! All the chickens LOVE the peat moss!

These are all 4 SHS w/a RIR mom. 3 weeks old.

There isn't anything cuter than chicks learning to roll about in their dust bath!! So sweet!!

To show you have to register them with a name so on number 9 she got the name Sot Flicka! In Swedish this means Pretty Girl! She is by far my most friendly and when I reach into cage she jumps on my arm and does not want to leave me! Number 2 is a rooster and he gained the name Oskar which is also a Swedish name....I thought since they have to be named why not just give them Swedish names! The Two I hatched at the bottem will have to wait to get named till I can tell sex....still figuring out some names for the others I think the black one is the other rooster and I believe the rest are girls!!

I think you should call one of them Agda. That's a Swedish hen name!

After more than 500 years of living in their native country, Swedish flower hens were recently imported into the United States for the first time, giving America's poultry hobbyists a new and beautiful breed of chicken. You can learn more about these birds here and here.
