Swedish Flower Hen Thread

This broody I have is making me nuts....I moved her into a nestbox out of the way, came back and found she had rolled the one egg I left her to show her the box out of the box and into the middle of,the coop, where she happily sat. I moved her back into the box, and she moved back into the middle of the coop, making her own nest right in the middle of the coop, there in the litter. I moved the nestbox and egg into the middle of the coop, so we will see if she moves again.
if you want to move her, you're going to have to confine her until she knows where her nest is supposed to be...

my broody girls were both inside the doghouse at lunchtime, so i hope they went back to broody-ing. they get along well, so i'm also hoping they'll share broody duty

i just noticed today, my blue sfh girl has some red/buff 'bleed thru' on her neck and chest... so she's not solid blue but a bit of a mix.

she's gonna be purty. 8) all 4 are doing well. i'm wondering if anyone's had any chicks from crested-crested breedings? what do the crests look like?

oh and i moved my broodies last night... this morning when i went out they were both out eating/drinking and digging in the pen...

they go back to the nests i made for them. chicks are due friday and i'd rather not have 500 babies in the house.

ok, maybe not THAT many, but it'll seem like it once my sandhill order gets here in 2 weeks... on top of the 20 i've got now, 40+ eggs in lockdown, and more that's been set, etc.

I don't have any yet, but mine are a little over 3 mo now, when they breed I'll post pics of the babies. All my SFH are crested, so should be interesting to see the babies. I plan to add a few non crested later on.

Question. Will a hen and rooster always throw the same color offspring?
that entirely depends on what genetics are behind the hen and rooster...

the answer is officially

if you get 2 or 3 the same color, then maybe. if you get 30 or 40 the same color, then yeah probably (but not guaranteed!)

(Okay....here she goes again...will this woman and "little black" ever go away, they say, as she posts still more photos...

Got little black (her?) into some good light and look at these colors in the feathers starting to sneak out: (These have become more prominent in the last 5 days and seem to continue to come out.)

(Orange anyone?)

Nice girl (but..................... those legs

Okay...I DID NOT WASH THESE FEET AND LEGS (Next time I take a photo of them when it is warmer and wash them first.)

(S)he has very yellow toenails and a bit of yellow undertones in the feet (and a bit in the leg). Not sure these photos will do a very good job of showing it.

A bit of yellow undertone in the leg but not much ...yet...

In this photo everything seems to have a red cast. Not sure if it's the lighting in the room or not.

ETA: 10.5 Weeks Old.
