Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Beth, she looks so adorable! I have a gray chick in my bunch that I hope turns out just like her. (Your silver laced brahma looks good in the background too.)
Daisyjack, I love the photo of them standing in the line! So cute!

Beautiful pictures, Contrastphoto, daisyjack and BLaBauve! This past month has been very chaotic for us (in a good way, praise God!) with a new miniature cow, a new miniature donkey, and lots of new baby chicks!

We had to put building the bigger chicken coop on hold to put up the fencing for the cow and donkey, but hopefully we'll get back to the coop now. The older chicks have been moved out of the laundry room to one of my small greenhouses for the time being.

Here are some pics of our latest hatch - 11 chicks out of 15 shipped eggs! It looks like I have quite a few darker ones to go with my light ones from the first hatch. I should get some crested ones out of this second bunch, too.

KYTinpusher, thanks. You have had some incredible hatch rates. What is your secret? Did you get the eggs from two different places? Sorry I don't remember if you already said.
I LOVE how you are displaying the the photos. Neat way to show the progress of the chicks. Can you tell yet if you have boys or girls out of the first hatch. I can't really see in the images you posted. I like the little almost completely black chick in your new hatch! He/she is so cute!

A mini cow and mini donkey? I don't think I have ever seen either of those. They sound adorable. I would love to see photos of them too.

We just hatched our first round of Swedish Flower eggs. We got 10 of 11 eggs to hatch - not too bad. I will be posting pictures of the chicks later today.

I have definitely been blessed with my hatch rates on the SFH. The credit goes to a loving God, being fortunate to deal with conscientious sellers, and to my Brinsea Octagon 20 Advance. The first eggs were from Wildhorsefarms on Ebay. The second set were from Duemig10 on one of her Ebay auctions. (BTW, she currently has an auction going here on BYC) I am hoping to get at least one black hen/rooster from this hatch.

Here are larger pics of the older chicks: (click to see larger image) I am thinking they are five girls, but I can't really tell yet. I welcome any comments!

There are pictures of the mini cow and mini donkey on my BYC page. To give you a little perspective, the man behind the donkey is about 6'2" and the cow is a few inches smaller than the donkey!

Absolutely beautiful little babies!!

And I love the photos with the lovely green grass and autumn leaves, too. (I live on a pile of dirt speckled with creosote bush and mesquite. It's that way all darn year).

We lost one of the new chicks today.

It was the dark chick (Gabriella) whose picture was at the middle right by itself. It was not really a surprise as we could tell when it was born that it was not well. It kept its eyes closed and keep reaching its beak in the air and trying to peep but no sound came out. It seemed to improve for a few days, opened its eyes, and we saw it at least attempting to eat and drink. Today I could tell it was not growing and its eyes were closed again. Even if I put it by the food and water, it would not even try. It died before I could do anything to help, although I'm not sure what I could have done.

I think that the fourth one on the top row is a rooster.
