Has anyone ever noted a "rumpless" SFH? I think I have one.

These are her pictures at 5.5 weeks:

These are her pictures at 9.5 weeks:

Her tail is always pulled down and never stands up like the other SFHs. She was hatched along with two SFH hatch mates from some eggs that I got from a breeder in Florida. Beautiful cresting and colors. :)

Thoughts?

I never heard of sfh before a couple of days ago, when I stumbled upon them in the breeds section of this site.
I did some searching and found some eggs for sale a 90 minute drive away. I have a broody hen, but just to be on the safe side, I have my old home-made incubator warmed up and ready. I'm going to pick up some eggs tomorrow. :)

I just did a little more reading and saw that Hedemora Chickens were also imported from Sweden... Maybe I should have looked for some of them. :) My great-grandparents came from the same region of Sweden as the Hedemoras. It's fun to think that these chickens may be decended from some of the same stock that my ancestors may have kept.

So you have buff cochins, too? That's what my daughter is looking for...
Do you sell any?
I need to plan a trip to visit my mom, and swing wide on the way home so I can stop by your place. Will you have any SFH chicks or eggs for sale or trade in June???

if you are looking for GOOD buff cochins, Tom Roebuck cochinman2005 has some of the best in the country. he's located near Richmond VA, but only sells started birds and occasionally older ones though. never chicks or eggs. and joanie_maine also has some very good buffs, and occasionally sells eggs, I believe. don't know about chicks. as the name implies, yes she's in Maine. LOL

Are you sure that is a her? The crested ones can be very sneeky! I have noticed the tails on some of my roos are down until they get older.

redhen where are you located in Southeastern PA? I live in Quakertown and have some swedish growing out right now. I won't be keeping all of them and was planning on putting some for sale soon. An example of two of the guys I have growing out.

These birds make me laugh and want to tear my hair. They have figured out how to escape from the daypen the group is in, where they will be safe from the adult roosters; one is quite aggressive in his defense of his territory. They come back when I call, go quietly and meekly back in, and they wait until I turn my back and sneak out again. I have set the kids the task of spying on the chickens to figure out how they are getting out. LOL

Their new big coop is 75% completed (I broke down and built it myself when hubby dragged his feet too long) and once it's done, they get to live in the horse pasture where they can roam to their hearts' content.

LOL! My SFH let themselves out each day and back in when they want to lay or just come back in for the heck of it. NONE of my other birds have figured out how to escape... nor do they seem to want to. SFH love to roam and love their freedom!

Hi, Can anyone help me with guesses on the sex of this Swedish Flower Chick-4 weeks old. I only have the one. Hoping for a girl!

Keep an eye on her. Some birds have "wry tail" where the tail goes sideways, but it stands to reason that a defect like this could cause the tail to go downward too. If that is the case and this is a pullet, she may never be able to lay properly as the position of her tail will impact her cloaca and possibly her entire reproductive tract.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that she turns out OK. She has lovely coloring.

I hatched two adorable flower hens from papas poultry. Here is one chickie after her daily foot massage and back rub. I love the way she sleeps on her side. :)

Squeeeee!
