Swedish Flower Hen Thread

It is pouring here now. But I don't think we will have a lake in the end. WOW.
ROFL hubby just pointed out, we DO have a lake at the end... we're at the headwaters of the north fork of the Roanoke river, which eventually dumps into Smith Mountain Lake.

so I guess what we have is a lake at the beginning.

LOL, just curious on the color pattern as i have one that resembles this one that came out of a mille x brown/white, i cant figure out where the gray came from
I thought you SFH people would appreciate this pic from my 2-month-old pen. Roosting time......Swedish girl showing the docile Cochins how to giterdone, LOL.

Oh my heavens-however i do have to admit sometimes mother nature at her worst brings us some amazingly beautiful photos
mine thought it entirely too WET today... granted it only rained for maybe an hour to an hour and a half total between 2 thunderstorms... and about 5" of rain. no idea how none of the babies or momma washed down the mountain.

here's our new 'lake' hubby came home to. and had to wait for it to drain some. he took a 2 hour nap in his car.

I'm sorry to hear you're down to 4. Keeping my fingers crossed for those. I remember the day I finally got frustrated with my still air incubator and broke down and got my Hovabator 1588.

When do the SFH eggs you got from me go into lockdown?
its alright! and they are in right now!

Wow! It's been a while since I've been on here. Well, aside from our tons of rain we've been getting here, we started building our house - which has now been put on hold due to all this rain, and of course a HUGE tornado swept through here on Monday. on Sunday, we put the 2 bunnies in an outside pin for a few hours so we could drag their cage outside and spray it out. We got it outside and opened it all up and found 3 baby bunnies! Guess Santa was wrong on the 2 girls he brought us! Ugh! I need a break!

On a side note. My SFH are all mostly laying now, I have a few still that aren't, but they're close. I've addicted on of my best friends to chickens. And she has addicted her day care lady to chickens. Norman just passed a backyard chickens law. So now those in city limits can have up to 4 hens for backyard chickens.

Have a great day everyone. We're gonna try and not get swept away in all this flooding.

Okay... a little nervous here...

My 21 wk cockerel is limping - not putting weight on left foot. Caught him briefly and checked foot but didn't see any visible issues. He was really fighting to get loose and I hope I didn't make things worse by catching him during the day.

I'm concerned because of all the issues I keep hearing everyone having w/the sfh leg problems.

Any thoughts on what I should do for him?

Isolate to keep him from trying to roost? Just wait it out and see what happens? ........?

So you have buff cochins, too? That's what my daughter is looking for...
Do you sell any?
I need to plan a trip to visit my mom, and swing wide on the way home so I can stop by your place. Will you have any SFH chicks or eggs for sale or trade in June???

At what age can I send you experts a photo and have you tell me what sex you think a chick might be??
LOL no matter what you THINK you've got, it's likely to be sneaky and develop into a roo late. I had 2 do that to me. at 7 weeks old I said, ok these 2 have NO comb or wattles. so they're girls. picked up another boy and BAM! the 2 decided they wanted to be boys too... so good luck. I doubt you'll have to wait until it crows or lays eggs at least. LOL

Junior, my younger silver grey dorking roo, did that to me last spring at about the same age. he'd stepped on a thorn or something I think. never did figure it out. but I put him in an isolation cage, big enough to turn around in and lay down while eating and drinking. wire floor btw. kept him in there for about a week or so then let him back out. he was still gimping a little but not nearly as bad as before.

so my vote is isolate him and make him be quiet but if he 'worries' himself, dark is better. if needed, put him in a darker area with a towel over the cage for a good part of the day. let him have light for a couple hours at a time thru the day to eat and drink .
