I HOPE they stay black. I have had two almost identical chicks in the past, and one is now red, black and white, and the other is blue, golden and white.

This is a stupid question, but how do you cut zip tie bands from chick legs? These three are banded as such. I band my babies with elastic bands or spiral bands, which are easy to take off, if I band them at all. I don't want to leave the bands on in case I forget. I was going to use scissors, but....well...is there an easier way?

I've used finger nail clippers.

He was being picked on by the other swede brothers and I separated him to help him come back good for a few days then died one morning when I went to feed I saw he was down so I held him till it was all over....I have 4 of your eggs that look like they are going to hatch the others made it half way and quit (the shells were not even half full....bummer it was nothing wrong on your end they were packed so well! so i am not sure what happened this time I put a few RIRs in as well and same thing half of them I have a still air I think I need a better quailty incubator

I'm sorry to hear you're down to 4. Keeping my fingers crossed for those. I remember the day I finally got frustrated with my still air incubator and broke down and got my Hovabator 1588.

When do the SFH eggs you got from me go into lockdown?

Hey everyone, my immediate family and friends were well out of the terrible storm on Monday afternoon. Thanks you for thinking of me. My heart is breaking for the families who lost children. The very best in communities and people come out at times like these and many, many efforts are in place to aid those in need. My own loss seems both at once too small and yet too hard to talk about just now. Late last evening a very big storm came through our area. A stray Husky broke into the big pen and took down all my adult SFH plus a little Ameracauna that lived with them. I do have some babies from those sweet birds but I'm going to miss them so much. I'm going to lurk a little less for a little while. I need some time.Hope all are doing well.
Best,
Cathie Sue

My heart goes out to you. I know this is a difficult time.

mine thought it entirely too WET today... granted it only rained for maybe an hour to an hour and a half total between 2 thunderstorms... and about 5" of rain. no idea how none of the babies or momma washed down the mountain.

here's our new 'lake' hubby came home to. and had to wait for it to drain some. he took a 2 hour nap in his car.
