Swedish Flower Hen Thread

SunnySkies,

Are you going to Sharpsburg tomorrow? My wife & I will be there. I have a specific shopping list. Not looking for SFH this time but for some blue wheaten and blue and splash ameraucanas. Hope to get a chance to meet some of the Maryland folks this time out. :)

I wish. But I only work weekends. To take the day off would cost me about $650. :( With the furloughs staring us in the face, we need any penny we can get our hands on. But I'm hoping to have SFH chicks and eggs for sale there next year.

Here is an update on my SFH she is almost 5 weeks

her little red head is now grey and red, some small flowers of grey and red showing

I have quite a few that started off like that. I would be willing to bet that at about 4 months old she will start getting more red. It usually starts with two strips of red feathers on the breast, and gradually fills in. She will probably keep a white neck, flights and tail with some flecks of color.

She has new grey and red flowers blooming almost everyday. She is so bold...she lets none of the other chickens push her around

Oh, snap! I think that's all 13 babies. Various ages. I love my birds.

I'm loving all the pictures everyone is posting! I just never get tired of SFH!!

Here are the two boys I got from SunnySkies. They're in quarantine so unfortunately the pictures are through the side of the run, but we can all be sure once they are part of the flock, I will be sharing lots of unfenced photos of these two handsome boys!!

The older boy is blue-based and uncrested.

The younger boy is white-based and crested.

Thank you, SunnySkies, for these beautiful roos! So glad family matters took us up to your neck of the woods so we could pick them up and meet you, too!

The crested roo reminds me of an old grandfather with big thick bushy eyebrows!

<-- this guy doesn't have the eyebrows I had in mind.

Pretty sure it'll be a roo. Crested

Even the older SFH roo I have looked less boyish than this one.

(Black, kind of girly looking to me, at least compared with the others.)

Bulldogma those roos are very handsome! Our first SFH are scheduled to start hatching sometime late tomorrow. I am so excited. I love how they start out one color and the color changes as they mature. That makes them that much more interesting to watch.
