Swedish Flower Hen Thread

2 more have hatched and 2 are zipping! They all look the same as the first one.
The combs all look the same, they are all the same colors. I had planned to name them Swedish names, but at this point I'm not sure I can tell them apart. :)
There is one that I thought died in the shell, I cracked it open at the big end, all the others had pipped, but not this one. I tore a little hole in the membrane and found it's head and pulled it up. Everytime I check on it, I think it's dead, it doesn't really move at all, but if I look closely, I do see it breathe. Very shallow breathing. I'm not sure if I should have let it be, or if I did the right thing to open it up... Edited to add, it did die.

It looks like I'll have 5 live SFH chicks, and 1 each of 2 other breeds. I'll post photos tomorrow after they are all fluffed up.

So just curious. Are folks finding that SFH are naturally broody? I hadn't heard that but am getting that impression. What is the experience of folks here?

No - sadly they are not particularly broody as a breed. Wildhorseannie has a wonderful girl - Penny I think - who does tend toward broodiness, but they aren't as broody as Silkies or Orpingtons by any means (in general).

Hello! Thought I'd update you guys on how our flower hens are! We have five from TareelBirdy, ended up with three girls and two boys! Perfect!

They're about 3 months old I think!

redridge, way cute.

I feel like an idiot, because out of 19 chicks, of which 3 are supposed to be sfh, I picked two banty's to be the sfh. By the time the teeny tiny chick was identified as a banty, some fo the chicks were starting to feather out. I thought, oh, these are the sfh. But, they don't look anything like yours, Redridge.

Does anyone think this is a swedish flower hen? It isn't a cream legbar, it isn't a lav orp, it isn't an auracana, and I don't think it is an icelandic. Those should be the other choices but since she snuck a banty into that group, it is possible something else came in.

Opinions? sfh or not? pink legs.
