Quote: they do make a steady charge fence charger... and the trick is, put 2 strands close enough together that he has to hit both. make one grounded the other hot. then he's sure to get a good solid 'knock the snot out of him' jolt. LOL (hubby's terminology)
that works especially well if it's on a fence or dry ground where the critter may not be well grounded. if he's not grounded then the shock won't bother him. where if he has to go between 2 wires, it'll go in from one wire and out the other
Yes and no.... the steady chargers are technically no longer made for safety reasons - they had various names from "weed burners" to "steady shock". But... if you really want one you can find them used... and sometimes new on the shelf still of old feed stores that don't turn them over very often. It's a double ground... I use Kencove electronetting... the poultry size... to rotate chickens, sheep and cattle. Great stuff. I have field fencing for perimeter fence with one strand of hot wire. Some places the hot wire is at the top, some at the bottom. When then use alligator clips to clip to that perimeter hot wire for the netting - that way we can put the netting anywhere we want on the 50 acres. I have 20 rolls of the 164' long. It's the best livestock investment I made other than my maremma... it's the only way to go since I move livestock daily. There is another brand made by Premier One, but I do NOT like it. Not all of theirs is double step-in (which is a must for stability), and they have much wider posts which creates sagging. From a purely visual standpoint... Premier One's is white, Kencove's comes in either green or orange. I use the green. My cattle and maremma respect it with the 9kv charger I use. It WILL put you on the ground.
That said... it doesn't keep out predators... they learn quickly they can dig under, run through, or jump over. But... I have quite a few maremma so... No problems... We have had a big cat prowling the last few nights and didn't loose a lamb or a chick. Haven't lost one animal to predation when they are with the maremma. Electric is great - maremma are ultra great!
