ok while we're at the 'what is it' game,

please tell me what i'd like to hear?

i'm afraid I might already know the answer, but I'd like to hear others chime in...

not sure of the exact age, it's one I picked up at the Roanoke swap last month from some of bhep's eggs hatched by another local hatchaholic (who's wife won't let him keep birds at all)... at the time, the hatchmates had HUGE combs and wattles, this ones were exactly as they are now. he/she/it has just grown into them over the last month...

I'm guessing pullet.

so just

that the one that hatched 3 days ago grows strong and is also a pullet. (and doesn't get eaten!)

the coon(s) came back last night. pulled most of 3 2 month old chicks thru the 1x1 wire of their pen and managed to scare another hen off her nest and pull her thru the wire too. (my broody splash cochin).

time to set the trap again... AND lock the babies in their house tonight.

Ugh! So sorry. I have a litter of maremmas due a week from Friday. If several weren't spoken for already I'd send you one. You folks who are loosing poultry need a good lgd.

LOL. That's not an lgd... That's a pet. Mine have never seen the inside of a house. ;-)
well, considering he alerts me whenever anything's harassing the poultry (up until we go to bed that is) and has killed his share of predators, i'd say he's a pretty darned good lgd. just not a full time one.

the night of the 4th, I had a raccoon drag one of my blrw girls off her 'hidden' nest where she decided to go broody. sunny got there and chased off the coon, then got my attention and showed me where she was...

in my book, that's a smart fuzz-mutt. 8) (even if he's not a mutt).

the coon had grabbed her by the head though and tho I tried, there was too much brain damage I think... she lasted 5 days before I made the decision that she wasn't likely to improve.
