Swedish Flower Hen Thread

if you're experienced with hatching other shipped eggs, I would say you probably won't have a problem. I dry incubate and just increase humidity once they go to the hatcher, and I've had pretty good results. even my 'local' eggs are over 2 hours away.

Thank you Tx, it sounds like they are worth a try. I have some tentatively lined up for early next month after my NYD hatch is complete. They would be coming out of TX, so I will hope for the best.
You will love this breed! Where are you located in Georgia? I am just south east of Atlanta. (near the airport) Its great to see more people in the area getting into Swedish Flower Hens!

GAGE if you are close to Bernie, you may want to consider getting
eggs from them if you can get them without shipping. Chance of
a good hatch would be greatly increased.

Bernie, I am in Watkinsville, which is just outside of Athens.

that's about like getting eggs from Leigh, for me... she drops them off at hubby's work, he brings them home (if he doesn't forget them the first day LOL)

Hi,
My DH finally decided that if I was going to keep chickens they should at least be purebred. I have chosen SFH and have eggs on the way, I also am ordering some chicks( never know about hatching). My only concern is that I've read that the roos are commonly prone to human aggressive behavior. Have you found this to be true or are some people being over critical of the breed?

Thanks

well, I knew that one of my sfh was laying, but unless she laid 2 eggs today, I have 2! AND they've been penned for going on a week now...

I think I'll blame the FF for getting them back in laying condition. but need to get some more oyster shell soon. I'm not using layer pellets in the FF, but chick/meat bird/grower pellets.

what an awesome Christmas present my girls gave me.

I've also got one (of 2) red dorking girls, 1/4 mille fleur cochins, 2/3 sfh, 1 (and only) blrw. all of whom are penned up. and the incubators are up and running, waiting for enough eggs to set at once.

the bad news, I lost one of my cockerels last night, somewhere between midnight and 7am, presumably to a raccoon... the neck was pulled thru the cage wire and all meat/feathers and the head were gone. apparently something spooked him out of the house.
