Swedish Flower Hen Thread

I just wanted to say thank you too all who were so kind when my cockerels were picked off by the neighbors dog the other day. Special thanks to HaplessRunner and Bulldogma for their generosity in helping me replace them.

This is a picture of my new cockerels being chased by one of my hens. We let everyone out to free range today while we built a goat hutch. These boys aren't sure what to think of the ladies, so they run from them. When it was time to go roost, they found a limb in my fig tree surrounded by thorns... so I have some new scratches from catching them to return to their coop.

Thanks again.

So glad they are settling in... even if they're not quite sure where to roost just yet. LOL! It won't be long before these boys rule the roost, so to speak.
Keep those updates coming!

anyone have any of their Swedish flower hens go broody ? I was wondering about this since none of my hens have gone broody.

yes, my SFH pullet went broody this winter, only a few weeks after starting to lay eggs -- she's raised three chicks and has now just started laying again...

the day they hatched! she was a great mom.

Ginger's first brood:

Ginger's second brood: (There were 2 chicks but the other one was under her :)

Broodiness can be genetic, so if you want a broody SFH, try to get chicks from a known broody. Many SFH are not broody at all.

I thought this chick was my PB SFH, but now at 4 1/2 weeks, it still doesn't have any color. So I'm assuming that means she can't be. Correct?

Could this one be SFH?

my vote is on the bottom chick... but I would wait until they grow to say for sure. what are the other options? I do have a couple red/white sfh that started out mostly white. but IMO the crest is HUGE for a sfh chick... most of mine (from Leigh's flock) don't start getting theirs until 2-3 weeks or more.

but if it is the bottom one, best guess also says it's a cockerel...
