I've had similar results going thru st Louis...especially when they originate or end in adjoining states. going further I think they go by plane rather than ground.

Quote: I'm confused... the quotes were messed up I think. you have one like who? both of those pictured are pullets. one of the few instances where mahogany on the wings is NOT a roo, the splash girl carries mahogany. a roo like her would be MUCH darker (which I like!)
I'm assuming yours run through the Columbus processing hub also. I'm positive they are destroying eggs I receive. I've got some ohiki/flytie Crosses and I'm amazed Andy are developing from the shape they are in
yah! hope they all continue!
IS your Roo very young? I'm a little shocked how diligent my 2 boys are, I think each girl is covered more than 1x per day, I'm thinking I will need to add more spare hens just to give them all a break, right now I have 2 SFH Roos w/ a total of 11 pullets & hens. All the eggs the broody started have been fertile...
I've had 4 boxes of eggs go via the hub in Columbus OH in the past 18 months and not a single egg hatched from any of those and I felt like it was more than just random bad luck (esp. as other eggs hatched fine in the bator w/ those duds).

I'm very behind on this ..... again... but we are breeding a non-crested roo to 1 crested hen and 1 uncrested hen. They are hatchmates, could that make enough of a problem to lower the hatch rate to 50%? It seems our humidity is likely too high (sits at 45%-55% typically, with a bump to 65%-75% on weekends). It's high because of the waterfowl hatching alongside. Strange that the high humidity doesn't affect the Basque.Karen, great hatch rates! I'm curious... we're any of the chicks you hatched a result of crested-to-crested breeding? My hatch rate on my own eggs is nearly 100% when I have no crested roo in the flock. I incubate with 30% humidity and go to 65% at lockdown, though I wait until day 19 to lockdown. When I had a crested roo in there, the rate dropped a little. Some of those chicks developed fully, but didn't seem to fill the shell as fully before lockdown. I think the crested-to-crested chicks can hatch, but may not be as vigorous resulting in a greater chance of drowning in the shell. If I had an extra breeding coop available, I would be tempted to put in only crested birds just to see what the hatch rate might be.
