I can't say its not a SFH, but my girls have started laying over the past week and all of them are pretty brown. Obviously some shade differences, but no near whites. Granted there are only (positively) 4 of the 16 laying at this point so its entirely possible that a very light one will show up. All 3 of my original hens laid brown eggs, and these new ones are pretty much like their moms. I'm pretty impressed with the size as well. They are definitely pullet eggs, but other than the first tiny egg they are decent size. I put in a batch of EE eggs today, so I added a dozen of the SFH pullet eggs to check fertility. I kept telling myself I wouldn't hatch until after my work travels, but found out that I won't be traveling until July so decided to start an EE batch....and since the incubator is running....! Also, I know that these are all red/white girls and this way I can see what the dark boys over the light girls will produce. I have 6 from pen #1, and 6 from pen  #2. I love hatching! It is kind of an addiction.

It is definitely an addiction!! I'm gonna hatch out whatever I get between now and next Saturday for the Easter hatch a long. We'll see if anything hatches out of the little white egg. Maybe I'll get a few more to put in.

I have a question. Is 7 out of 10 shipped hatched good? Also 2 of 7 have crooked toes? Is this common? They are not the last ones hatched, they hatched day 21. Thanks for any advice

7 out of 10 is wonderful!! I got a dozen and only 2 hatched... Way to go!! I cant help with crooked toes sorry, no experience with that happening.

I found a little egg in the nest box today. I'm thinking it might be my one SFH that is close to laying age. It's really light tho, possibly white. I do have 1 white egg layer, but she's been laying really well (and large eggs) for about 7 months now. My SFH is the only one I have left to start laying. My EE started laying a couple of weeks ago (i've only found 1 of her eggs as she likes to lay under the shed), but they're a bluish greenish color.

Anyone else have a white/almost white egg from a SFH?

here is a pic of it next to one of my other girls egg.

Yes- I have a couple that lay very light eggs, almost white. And I know for sure they are Swedes.

Give them vitamin B-12 in some form regularly.... some people will give them chopped up liver or other meat. I put infant vitamins in the water until they are about 4 mos old. Just make sure they get extra B-12 and see if crooked toes go away.

Let us know what happens.

Chicks from Bulldogma's eggs, hatched 3/1/13:

Only hatched 2 out of 7 but I think I've got problems with low humidity. I had to help these two out of the shells- they pipped then nothing happened for hours. It looked like they were being shrink-wrapped in the inner membrane. None of the others even pipped, no sound or movement. The air is so very dry here in the desert.

These two are very lively and seem healthy to me. They are being hand-fed scrambled eggs and love it!
i've got 8 that just went to lockdown today... plus 6 or 7 of my own dorkings.

for another good hatch.

at least these eggs weren't subjected to possibly being partially frozen before collection, then left to sit for up to a month (or more for some of them) before incubation. LOL (but i did get 14 healthy chicks from that mess.)

so here's hoping for another 15 or so... then there's the 60+ i set that's due 10 days later... or the 10 more sfh eggs i set a few days ago... oh yeah and the 36+ bantam cochins that's due to come in a week from monday...

oh, and 6 mixed bantams were calling my name at TSC today too... and my sandhill preservation order (25+ dorkings) is due april 1.

um... am i crazy?

oh! and did i mention i'm getting 2 pairs of sfh on tuesday?

I'm sorry about your humidity issues and that more didn't hatch, but those two babies are precious!
