One of my babies looks to have coccidiosis. They were bright and alert this morning, eating and running around. I checked their water this afternoon and noticed one of them was under the EcoGlow, which was odd. I lifted up the Eco and noticed this chick -- of course, a girl, light colored and maybe a blue or splash -- has her eyes shut and sitting there all fluffed up, looking poorly. I took her out so I could see her stools, and they are very liquid. I don't see blood. She looks horrible.
I started the lot on Corid, and I gave her Corid, electrolytes, probiotics. I also have a sulfa I could add in.
I want to tear my hair. I'm awesome with client animals and almost unflappable, but my own....not so much.
She won't eat or drink. I'm giving her drops via a syringe. Anything else I can try? I really don't want to lose her.
Trying to figure out how she got it...I look after the chicks first, then go outside to look after the rest. When I return, I drop my outdoor clothes and shoes at the door. I usually even shower after that. I don't have to fool with them again until later, and it's usually a visual check at that point (I keep everyone out of the brooder as much as I can). The only thing I can think of is I added a second feed dish 2 days ago, and it had been stored near where I have 3 adult birds and 2 chicks living after I put it up last fall, clean (I run them through the dishwasher before storing). Maybe there were some coccidia on the dish from the adult birds?
Argh.
