Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Good to know on the bare belly! I probably didnt notice before because the banty cochin was such a meanie.

She came from Greenfire. She's not on any of her own eggs unfortunately but I think 4-6 of the 10 in the incubator are hers.

Quote: i'm in the same boat, kinda... i have 2 crested roos, 1 crested 1 uncrested pullets (tho one roo is in the hospital cage for a while yet, he's doing ok i think).

i also have 3 chicks about a month old from bulldogma, 1 for sure pullet, 1 for sure roo, 1 ???. so either way, i'll have some variety. i plan on keeping 2-3 roos and probably 5-6 hens, most likely free ranging except when we want hatching eggs (if they'll stop trying to walk on the undersides of the horse's hooves).

plus i've got 6 more of Bulldogma's eggs cooking (from Gunnar's girls) due the 11th and 14 that were shipped in for me to hatch (for her) that are also growing well (i think 1 or 2 may be early quitters, but it's only been 5 days). '

overall i'm pretty sure when it comes down to it, i'll have as much variety as i want for having a diverse flock.

One of my February chicks is limping. Of course, I'm a vet, so that means I have no meds here. I put the chick in a hospital cage. No wounds, no palpable fractures, nothing :( Poor critter.

ETA: I rather think this chick has injured its hip. I need to radiograph. Trying to work out how to get that done since I don't work until Saturday.

Now, this is one you'll get a chuckle from......this is a SFHxRIR cross - my friend wanted some so I put my RIR hen with my crested SFH roo. Sent the chicks with her, but kept this interesting little top-knot-head (you can't see the tiny crest in this pic).......it makes me smile every time I look at it. Funny markings on it's head.

Cute little thing!! It should be interesting to see how it grows out!
