Is it possible that a 17 week old sfh could have layed an egg?
I came home today and found a very light colored egg - lighter than any of my current chickens lay. I have 2 that lay light tan, 2 that lay darker brown, 2 colored layers and the swede kids.
I got eggs from my 2 lighter tan layers today, one from the darker layers, one color, and one VERY LIGHT "tanish". I've never had an egg look like that before.
But isn't she too young? The light colored one is on the right.

It is possible, and I would guess if it was going to happen, this would be the time of year that it would. Spring seems to bring out the need to be a mother in hens. I hope mine that are 17 weeks old start soon!Is it possible that a 17 week old sfh could have layed an egg?
Quote: That is one of the great things about the landraces - you are actually encouraged to let all those different colors stay together in the same flock. And every chick seems to hold a surprise in it's coloring. You know, now you are going to have to collect one of every color!![]()
Can you send me some of the water they're drinking?I've started moving the first batch out to the outside pens. Got a pic of the first group, getting used to their new surroundings....
