Sad news - I had to put my beautiful Tula down today for a leg injury. Just one of the risks of free ranging, I guess. She was one I got from Dahlisgrams and my only crested pullet. I was so sad to have to let her go.
Well I am pretty excited, my SFH girls just started to lay last week so I've been collecting & saving the eggs. I just set my first 16 eggs in the bator an hour ago- on or about Aug 5 I am hoping to have some new babies! Only 3 of the 6 girls are laying yet, but I don't know which 3. I'm anxious to see what colors I will get from them

I think I missed (or forgot...things have been pretty "crazy" around here with a death in the family).... What symptoms did she have and how did it progress? Did you see her get injured? I am hoping I may learn something from your experience.

Thanks everyone - it was tough to lose such a pretty girl.

LM - I had only mentioned it once (and quite briefly) over on the NCK thread. She just started limping one day. I put her in one of the small seclusion areas in the trailer where she could still see the other birds through the mesh. At first she seemed to be getting better, but then the foot started knuckling over and she just wasn't doing well in there all by herself. She would get beaten up when I put her out (and the limp was worse) so that narrowed the choices down.

One good thing is that I have a lovely crested roo now (thanks to SunnySkies) so there will be crested babies in the future.
