Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Quote: well the last thing I need are more roos. LOL maybe i'll see you there though. I had hoped to pick up a couple dorking cockerels during my trio, but the breeder's got some health issues going on... so i'm coming up basically to see the birds there, see a few people and go shopping. LOL

They do fine in Texas. You have to have shade trees, and if you need a constant water source if you go on vacation. They are not as good as Mediterranean breeds but better than white rocks, speckled sussex, and buff orpingtons. You might consider buff minorcas which are great layers and Sicilian buttercups. Do get the ba.

I'll be at the VABreeders show too. Will be exhibiting 2 mottled houdan pullets.
I had contemplated showing, but decided that i'll be taking them to Knoxville instead. haven't been able to get anyone up here to do the testing required...

I have 4 Dorkings and 3 bantam cochins that will be going

He is a SFH, but those aren't my girls, lol. Wish they were!

Lol, guess I read your first comment wrong, thought you meant you had some too...

just google Virginia poultry breeder's association. it's on their website. but it's at the caroline county fairgrounds on the 23rd.
is it finally up there? last time I looked there was no information.

Tony, where is your MF SFH roo from? I might be interested.

Hope to see some of you folks at the VPBA show then!

The MF SFH roo came from Karen who got the eggs from KYTinpusher, I believe. Karen can verify that. The other chick I got from Karen is a red/white cockerel, as well. Of two I got from Leigh, one is a red/white cockerel and the other is a red/white pullet. These chicks were hatched around middle of September.

In the offing, I have two more chicks from Leigh that I hatched on October 12. Too early to tell yet but parents were Mace & Yttra. One is brown/white penguin (as Karen calls them) and the other is gray/white penguin with some reddish starting to show.

This will be my first show in which I show some chickens. Hopefully, I have not taken on more than I can handle. I plan to show a blue wheaten ameraucana cockerel, a wheaten ameraucana cockerel and pullet, a black ameraucana cockerel and pullet, three cream legbar cockerels and two pullets, and an euskal oiloa cockerel. I thought about some SFH but it would be a stretch until things get more organized for them.

I have a MF roo who is 5 months. I moved him in with the laying hens. He has stopped crowing. Is this a problem? Also when will his spurs grow? At what age can I expect him to begin breeding?
