Swedish Flower Hen Thread

When you examine the ones in the pictures I have seen they all have some gold color around the neck - it may be quite subtle. I have not seen a genetics chart on SFH, may be hard to do as there is considerable variation. Maybe one of the genetics gurus would weigh in if we asked them.

I already did... look at the top of this page.

I have no doubt regarding the lineage of any of my birds. Very standard, average "splash" or whatever. He does, however, have a crooked beak. Like some big genetic mutant or something. At maybe two a half months of age, his neck and head were literally about 150% the size of the other birds, just head and shoulders over his brothers and sisters. And the weird thing about him was he simply didn't quit growing until about 9-10 months of age. My dad's got pictures of him that he took for a four year old visitor around Thanksgiving. I'll see if he can e-mail them.

But yeah, after all the advice I've received, I think I'm gonna grab Jovan from my dad's house and drop Sammy off there. He's actually pretty mean anyways and I don't like being attacked every time my back is turned.

crooked beak would eliminate him from the breeding pool instantly. his size as well, as that's not normal for the breed and I'd worry about what other genetic anomalies may be present... besides, if he's that large, he may injure the smaller hens trying to breed them.

It is so hard getting my hands on these chickens. I do not want eggs in fact I might even sell my GQF 1502 incubator. I would like started stuff but the one thing that gets me is the shipping prices.

sorry but it's just the wrong time of year. but if you decide to sell the gqf, let us know please. or I might even be willing to trade some birds. LOL

You are right it is the wrong time I believe and the thing is I paid nearly $1000 for this thing after shipping so I hate to sell it if I ever needed it but at the same time I have not needed it much so far. All I can say is whoever has them are some lucky people :)

I had seen that post previously. For some reason the chart shows up with all the pictures crammed together and tiny on the left side of the chart on my computer. Has the complete genetic makeup been determined yet? With of course variations of color and crest presence or absence. It appears to me that all these birds are gold-based, would be interesting to see pics of any that are not.

You'll have to fight me for it! LOL! (Not that I'd be able to afford it.) I would LOVE to have a 'bator like that!!!

I know... you could just let me "keep" the incubator for you, and in return for allowing me to take care of it for you, I'll hatch what ever you like for you!

wow... I could buy one with shipping for about 750 directly from gqf... I've seen them used in the past for $300-400... so if you're interested in a pre-fab flock of sfh, pm me... 8)

Alright :) will do hopefully I can get some w/o having to resort to trading the incubator.
