Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Ok all you experienced dry hatchers. Tomorrow is day 18. The humidity is at 26%.
Is it time to bump up humidity, & to what percentage?

SFH & CCL eggs....so excited.

Leigh....my one chick is totally white so far, only 3weeks old today. Will try to get some pics soon.

Mom is with hospice care, busy time right now, not much time to take pics :(

I usually put them in lockdown on 19 and bump to 55%. I have a bowl that gives that for me, I simply fill it with hot water.

Thanks! You, Bulldogma, LeahsMom (fellow Hoosier), and others all have wonderful stock. Love looking at everyone's pictures :)
Thank you, and welcome to the thread!!

You definitely have an Ali baby there. Expect her to be one of the friendliest, cuddliest chickens you've ever had.

Sorry to hear about your mom. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

@CountryHen19 , you lucked out w/ a pretty assortment of colors in you pullets! Too bad on the no Rooster rule...any chance you could take your ladies for a visit to someone near you w/ a good sfh roo? you would get at least 10 days of fertile eggs from visit so you could hatch some chicks that way , just an idea if you really wanted to keep your girls in the sfh gene pool and fun if you wanted to raise some chicks.

Meanwhile, yesterday I got the brown egg layers out of the sfh pen so I don't have to trap nest the 2 sfh gals in order to be certain on eggs. (I also moved the 4 CL up to their Roo) to keep the 2 sfh roos happy I had to bring all the blue & olive EE gals down to the pen so I expect a lack of eggs until the pecking order gets settled in the new flock.

The trap nest sfh eggs are still developing in the bator.

I also moved the crazy broody, she was back up to sitting on 15 eggs (had taken all the new ones again yesterday) I put her on 9 almost ready to hatch from the brooder (ones she originally started 3wks ago) & put her in her own cage on them after dark. The 15 she was on looked like none were started the same day so it will be a project to figure it out for LD but again, at least the broody won't be taking the sfh eggs randomly now.

So moving forward on collecting a big batch of pure sfh egg so I can increase my flock , finally! :)

I am amazed at how fast the pullet eggs are increasing in size. I'll be able to set eggs from pullets only laying 2 weeks!

Last hatch was shipped eggs. I was so excited to increase my flock.

Got 3 to hatch from 7 that made it to lockdown.

One of those had a vaulted skull. Guess that helps explain the poor hatch. It looks like it has a tumor on its head.

One blue base, a black based, and a red based chick. Gotta love SFH! Pictures later. It's cold and windy today!

Well, yesterday was Day 18, and my eggs went into lock down. So far I have 21/26 SFH eggs developing plus two maybe eggs from Leigh. I also have 1/8 jubilee orpington (JO) eggs that made it to lock down. Last weekend, I had 9/11 (lock down eggs from a shipment of 12) blue wheaten/wheaten ameraucana eggs hatch.

All of these eggs were shipped by USPS to me. The SFH came from southwest Virginia. The ameraucana eggs came from northeast Pennsylvannia. The JO eggs came from Kentucky. All shipped eggs were very well packed. Just goes to show that using the USPS is a bit of a crap shoot.

LOL I'm guessing you mean your 'red based' chick to be splash? red/white? they're nearly ALL red-based, with varying amounts of blue or black or splash (white).

well, I sent out 4 sfh birds yesterday. first time shipping and I'm glad to say all 4 made it to their home today. hoping to hear (soon?) that they arrived in good shape.

1 boy and 3 girls...

My son brought them home for me, he's on school vacation. He put them in a 4x4 coop.
Just got home and took care of my day old chicks 1st. I'll take care of the rest of the flock, shower up and then take a look at them. I can't wait to see them but want to practice good bio security. I also received a second rooster from another BYC member who's in a second 4x4 coop. I'll try to post some pics later tonight when I'm done with chores.
Thank you both so much!
