I just wanted to share a picture of my broody SF hen. Eight eggs, eight babies

Wonderful! A broody SFH is a wonderful thing to have!

Oh - and great news!! Ginger was broody 3 times last year. Well this year Astrid is stepping up to the plate and has 4 eggs under her that should hatch next week! Yippeeee!

Are you doing some kind of hormone enhancement

Queen Emma (my only adult female at the moment) is getting mean as snakes. Of course, that could mean that she IS hormonal and maybe I should be expecting to see her start setting soon..

@LeahsMom - cute pic; how did you add the crown & scepter??

Meanwhile, here is what I was on about re: HUGe sfh eggs!

same eggs just sfh vs turkey

I have gotten 4 of these huge beauties this week, all currently in the bator...

WOW! Those are some big eggs! Ouch! Have you tried to hatch any yet or are these the first?

I'm sure she has been laying for while, but up until this wk I couldn't find them (farm dog maybe ate them??!!)
but this wk she suddenly started laying in one of the coop nest boxes :) AND these (finally) are pure sfh !!!!
so the 4 in the bator are the first try on hatching her eggs (several small pullet eggs from "Daisy" have not hatched, but there are more in the bator now too).

& I wait....

have you cracked any of them just to make sure they're not double yolkers?

Yup - you need to send some of those my way! I'll trade you some of my eggs for some of yours if you're interested.

Didn't want to crack any since I only have the 4 so far, but the first 2 are showing early candle signs of veining (did NOT appear double yolked although my candling method is not the best).
fingers crossed...

and I don't want to jinx anything, but IF/when I get some of these hatched for myself, then I'll be very interested in trades etc. as having sfh is great, having flocks of sfh who mainly lay turkey sized eggs would be *amazing* ...I'll keep ya'll updated...

Well...
I'd like to say it comes naturally to her but it was photoshop.

And not a very good job, either, as I was in a hurry and didn't do a very professional work there. Less than 3 minutes and that was all I had to give it.
