I opened the hutch this morning, and she was sitting on the eggs. Hopefully, she'll stay put. We'll see what things look like after work. Thanks for advice and encouragement, all.

6 babies, 1 eggs to go.
These are miracle babies.
First time momma stopped sitting on these eggs more times than I cared to count!
Was going to throw them away, figured they were no good.
The first mom broke one egg last week, and I saw a tiny chick.egg
Decide to move my first time broody cochin to a secure area.
Sunday was to be hatch day, lifted momma to pull her of the nest for some food & water.....and we had a chirping baby!!!!!!
She is sitting tight on # 7.

I went and checked on the maran in the hutch. She was not sitting on the eggs. She had nestled down in the hay in another part of the hutch. So I took the eggs and stuck them under her. She screeched at me. Thoughts? I'm distressed. This maran has been broody for two weeks, and I'm afraid I've broken it.

Did you move her in the complete dark?

They will usually be in the "broody trance" in the morning and it doesn't matter where they are. But when you move them when there is any light they become distressed and start trying to get back to their nest.

Except for my flashlight, it was totally dark when I moved her. I had to have the flashlight to see my way around.

wow. That's amazing that she got all disturbed like that. I've not had a reaction like that in the dark.

Have you seen if she has stayed on today? I'm guessing that since she chose her spot she'll hang in there.

Isn't it interesting how we work and work to "break" a broody and sometimes just can't make it happen. But then we worry about them leaving the nest when we want them to stay. Sigh

I may have shined my flashlight on her and the eggs too much when I moved her. I was afraid that, in utter darkness in a strange place, she wouldn't know the eggs were there.

No idea if she has stayed in today. I'll find out when I get home tonight. Fingers crossed!

They're all still looking like pullets to me... so far. I never make that determination until I see an egg
