I love there plumage, truly a beautiful chicken breed. Are they expensive?? They are just the cutest!! The plumage on the roosters definitely reminds me of Blue Wheaten

Most hatcheries sell chicks from $25 and up.

Mine came from a breeder.

I am actually testing all the variant colors, patterns, and personality coming from my rooster and hen. I sold some and butchered quite a bit from my flock.

So far from my pair, they are giving me 7 colors/patterns.

I got hatching eggs from a lady in North Carolina. She had been working to preserve the breed. But she stopped selling towards the end of the Covid lockdown. Not sure what happened with her, I can only speculate it may have been due to health reasons.

Have you tracked how the colors develop? I’m in Switzerland and just hatched 17 eggs from a local breeder about 3 weeks ago. They’re getting their “adult” plumage, but we’re not seeing much white. (There’s obvious specks of white on a couple, and one has a fully white breast). Does the white develop later in some cases?

I have heard that if they have no white then they never will. Don’t know if that’s true, but they do get more white as they get older. I have a 3 year old hen who had very little white as a chick but is now almost half white.

I picked up 3 Swedish Flower Hens today. Is it normal for the leg color to differ? Top right kind of has a poofier neck.
