I've been a lurker, here, too, on and off... Hi Cynthia12=)

Haven't looked for a little while, didn't realize there were blue SFH's?? How do you get that color? I just love blue feathering... Same as other feathering probably?... Cross a black based with a white based and you get blue?

Seeing the pics again is making me think twice about the project I'm working on... blue and black copper marans and wheaten/blue wheaten ameracaunas... I may end up combining those pens for OE's and EE's so I can have an SFH pen=) we'll see, but then again, maybe I'll just get some chicks and be happy with a few pretty pullets... Cynthia, don't tempt me with yours, I just can't have any chicks right now, even though it's KILLING me to say it!!
no, crossing white/black based birds will just get you more white/black depending on what the birds carry.

blue is a dominant gene, so to get a blue you have to use a bird that CARRIES blue. so either a blue (carries 1 copy of the gene) or a splash (has 2 copies).

just like your other varieties with blue. the difference is the gene that gives sfh their white mixture. i don't know for sure but don't think it's mottled gene, but something else, as mottled would give you white tips to a colored feather.

So what does a splash SFH look like?

Quote: ok this is the one i was thinking of... pretty sure she looks like a splash girl. kinda like weeble (who would probably make a nice addition to a sfh pen, if not for the dark feathered legs and potential for blue eggs LOL)
