Swelling and Scab on Duck Foot

I believe Krazyquilts mentioned the clear iodine. Tomorrow I have to buy some epsom salt and gauze to wrap her foot up, will try to get same clear iodine as well. Will you get clear iodine at a pharmacy store like Walgreens? How do I use it? @Miss Lydia

I found some at Walmart. Maybe if you call first to be sure... It is also called Yodo Blanco or white iodine.

The foot does not need to be wrapped - another nice feature.

In short, one soaks the foot in Epsom salt solution (no drinking, it's a laxative). That softens the skin. Then a couple of drops of clear iodine, let it dry before setting the duck back on his or her feet. In five or six days a scab forms that can be soaked and softened. Sometimes when you gently pull on it the first time, it comes off, with the pus on it. But it may need another application of the clear iodine, another wait for a few days, then soak and try again. I know Miss Lydia has used this, and Haunted55. But Haunted doesn't get online much these days, I don't think.

Others, too, but I am kinda tired and not remembering so well right now.

@Abraeri I found the clear at Walmart.

The way Amiga described it right. But after I soaked I let the foot dry then I take a qtip and spread the iodine over the area where the bumble is . I have found it usually take 3-4 soaks and applications before the scab will come off with out tearing healthy skin. Sometimes there is thick cottage cheese like pus sometimes just a hole so once you get the scab off soak again then apply more iodine and just watch to keep it clean till healed.

Sorry I haven't been able to post lately. I used the iodine. A scab formed and i was able to pull it off with some puss. I think the swelling has been going down recently, but still a bit to go. Another of my ducks have started limping a bit so before it gets too bad I've been soaking her and applying iodine as well.
