I painted my ducks bumbles and then waited a couple of days and then went back and checked and the picture is what I found. This isn't something you have to keep watch over, the iodine is working at killing the infection, you add in the tetracycline and you are hitting it from all sides. In a couple of days I expect you will see small black circles on the part that is swollen. Another bath, take the scabs off and see if there is anything you can pull out behind the scab, but I suspect the scab will be thick and there won't be much there. Clean it up, dry and paint again.Okay I put Iodine on it tonight. How many days do I have to do the iodine treatment before it turns black like your picture? Do I still have to put iodine on it then? I will have my dad bring home some of the D-10 from TSC on his way home from work tomorrow afternoon. Thank you so much for helping me so much!!! I really appreciate it!

If the swelling is down and the skin behind the scab is normal looking, then no, I wouldn't repaint it. If the bumble is still there, even if you can't see any pus, paint it again and then wait. That is one of the good things about this treatment, you do not have to keep at it constantly, nor do you have to risk cutting into something you shouldn't be. The iodine is doing the work for you even if the bird is out and playing in the mud. It doesn't need to be bandaged, is a whole lot less invasive than cutting and digging and because of this, I think, a lot kinder to the animal. I am not saying those that have and can do the surgery are wrong by any means! I was willing to go that route if I had to and in fact was all set up to do it. I just didn't need to.That's good news! I think Haunted55 said to watch for a few days. I am not sure it needs retreatment with the iodine from post 76. I need to be paying closer attention, since this information will be very helpful to me some day.
I'd soak then paint.I would let it dry for 30 mins-1 hour before letting her in the pool. I really don't know but I put it on my ducks feet before I put her away for the night. I used milk jugs with a large hole (big enough to where she can get her head in and out comfortably) on one side with some water in it. That is just so she can't get her feet wet, get medicine (iodine) in the water, and overall make a smaller mess in the cage for us duck parents to clean up. Thank you guys so much for the support!! I put a little more iodine on it last night, will I need to repaint anytime soon? Also, should I continue with the E.S. soaking if I stop painting the foot now?
I would think once it's dry it would come off slowly but I think I'd do the iodine at night when they go to bed to keep it on long enough to work. and maybe not have any water they can get into in their pen till healed.Great news Petduck. I have question about iodine if I paint my duck or ducks with undiluted iodine would it harm them if they got in their pools as of course they drink pool water and we keep small pools in their run or would it be better to make diluted tea color idione and soak them for 10 min.
