No. This disease is killing people 20-45 because it makes the immuno-response overreact, and folks quickly drown in mucus. The fittest are likely to be the sickest, just like the 1918 flu.

NO. The one that caused the 1918 Spanish Flu does not go around every year. It is one strain that is studied under lock and key with incredibly secure labs monitored by our government because it is so dangerous. Though avian in nature, it, too, had swine-flu-like receptor-bindings and crossed into a human to human function. It has never been seen before or since. The folks dying from this H1N1 are not likely to have died otherwise, this strain is causing undue ratios of deaths- guessed to be around 8%, 4 times higher than the fatality rate of the 1918 flu. This is another W shaped fatality figure, rather than a U, with the young and the old making up the majority of deaths.

Well, I say relax, wash your hands, and if you are not parent of an infant, over 65, or immuno-compromised, DO go about business as usual. Be aware, use your sanitizer, and be willing to let your fear guide you a little.
I agree with the overblown crud the media feeding us being a crock, but think it's important to know the truth, even if it means researching A LOT. Don't expect others to feed the truth to you.
DESPITE the frightening facts, it's not helpful to freak out. It is important to get the information correct, however, and be prepared to stay out of the public for a while.
