I honestly don't understand the mass hysteria. Just like any other flu, if you are not young, old, or immunocompromised, it runs it's course. If you are in the high risk group, wash hands, avoid sick people, and let other know if they are sick, not to have close contact with you. It is actually a shorter course than some of the other variants that travel though humans every year and kill thousands. This strain of H1N1 is only resistant to one of the three antiviral meds out there and people who sought treatment because of trouble breathing recover just like any other flu. The ones dying from it likely would have died had they caught any other strain of influenza type A! The virus that caused the spanish flu goes around EVERY YEAR, but most humans don't get that sick or die from it anymore because we have become resistant.
Media has taken this and run like wildfire. The whole "OH NO! Pigs are dirty, and they give us dirty viruses!!! We are all gong to die!!! " Come on people. Has anyone ever followed the "common strains" or the "predicted" flu strain for the year and watched how badly that one spread? "Common" influenza type A is harbored in birds around the world and kills 250-500 THOUSAND people ANNUALLY. I say relax, wash your hands, and if you are not an infant, in your 80's, or are immunocompromised, go about business as usual, and if you do get it, don't visit the childrens hospital or your grandparents.
