Well The Journal star (Lincoln Paper) said there was a confirmed case in NE now...
Only 1 hour away...
Someone visiting from California got off of the plane with it....
I dont know where he is, but chances are that some other people probably have it on the plane too... (That is my opinion.)
IT IS HERE!!!

do these people not hear what is being said? it isn't being transferred by pigs- but by humans.... good grief! hang onto your hammie!!

I imagine this thread would be hundreds of pages long if we posted about everyone that died from the regular flu

I know it is worse, but chances are that anyone here that gets it will survive. They talked to a gal on the news that had it and is now fine. Sore Throat, cough, congestion, fever. Sounds like the flu to me.

It's in my area.

We were talking tonight and have decided against going to restaurants for a while. We are afraid someone may be sick in the kitchen and germinate our food! yuck.

I have also gone into mini-survivorlist mode and have started over buying basic items and freezing them and stocking the panty. Not large amounts just extra things like rice, beans, milk, flour, etc.

....mental note...extra toilet paper would be good!

If this comes from pigs........it's FACTORY pigs. If I were you I'd ignore it.

Matter of fact, makes me realize how good we are to them compared to all I've seen.

Keep the pigs!!

I honestly don't understand the mass hysteria. Just like any other flu, if you are not young, old, or immunocompromised, it runs it's course. If you are in the high risk group, wash hands, avoid sick people, and let other know if they are sick, not to have close contact with you. It is actually a shorter course than some of the other variants that travel though humans every year and kill thousands. This strain of H1N1 is only resistant to one of the three antiviral meds out there and people who sought treatment because of trouble breathing recover just like any other flu. The ones dying from it likely would have died had they caught any other strain of influenza type A! The virus that caused the spanish flu goes around EVERY YEAR, but most humans don't get that sick or die from it anymore because we have become resistant.

Media has taken this and run like wildfire. The whole "OH NO! Pigs are dirty, and they give us dirty viruses!!! We are all gong to die!!! " Come on people. Has anyone ever followed the "common strains" or the "predicted" flu strain for the year and watched how badly that one spread? "Common" influenza type A is harbored in birds around the world and kills 250-500 THOUSAND people ANNUALLY. Emerging and Re-Emerging Infectious Diseases: Influenza as a Prototype of the Host-Pathogen Balancing Act Anthony S. Fauci 2006

I say relax, wash your hands, and if you are not an infant, in your 80's, or are immunocompromised, go about business as usual, and if you do get it, don't visit the childrens hospital or your grandparents.
