I got some today at a local pet & vet supply -- a 1/8 oz tube of Terramycin ointment for
$13 !!!
I went ahead and got it because until now I haven't found it anywhere else locally & didn't want to wait for it to be shipped. But I'm certainly going to be on the lookout for a much more economical source in the future!

Yes, that's what came out of the first hen's eye. It even had a rounded indentation on the end that was pressed against her eye. That's why I thought this was a condition called "eye worm" because the gunk that comes out looks like a maggot, but it's not. But I've heard that eye worm is an actual worm, so I don't know what this is. But the first hen I treated like this had the stuff come out in one piece and the next day her eye was back to normal.
The current afflicted hen still has infected matter in her eye. It isn't swollen like before, but when I part the lid there's still a piece of white matter in there, it looks like a kernel of corn. I'm flushing the eye with saline, put it in a squeeze bottle so I can apply a little water pressure. But it isn't moving, yet. And I'm applying the million dollar eye ointment 2X a day, hope that will help.
This is when I wish I had a veterinarian as a relative or a friend who owes me a favor, someone who would enthusiastically say "Ooh, I know just what to do, let me deal with this, it's my favorite thing to treat!".
sunny_side_up, that is exactly wht i am doing, but i am still squeezing the eye "bump" but cant get anything out. i looked under the lid and cant see anything unusual. i also paid $13 for that eye ointment.
