Yesterday I notice my roo had a slightly swollen eye with small scratches on the leading edge of his eye lid, I looked for worms and didnt see any. No discharge from eye nose or around the ears. I separated him from the flock for observation. Fast forward to today and i go check, No increase in swelling but his eye is closed due to what looks like "sleepy dirt" holding it close. still no discharge from eyes other wise or nose or around ears. any ideas? should i try to get his eye open? leave it? any organic methods of treatment? I Put ACV and garlic into water and going to give some vitamins today.

I would try saline for the eye. This would loosen up what is closing his eye (or maybe a warm warm rag without rubbing just compressing would help open his eye).

You can also use a small dab of Terramycin eye ointment (from the feed store) or plain Neosporin/Triple Antibiotic Ointment in his eye twice a day. His eye is a little sunken which can be a sign of conjunctivitis (pinkeye.) Is he acting normal? He has a few black peck marks on his comb. Is anyone pecking him?

I only treat with organic methods

he is acting normal for the most part other than only having vision out of one eye. he seems to be eating ok. hes crowing and walking around. this is the first time ive removed him from the flock so i cant say if his behavior is normal for him being away from his ladies, but does not seem lethargic

i moved them to the garden to till and winter prep, the day we move them we got hit with a tropical storm. 2 inches of rain. very muddy. and a new coop they were in for the first time. high stress for them and they didnt like the rooting stick set up the first night. could have been some bumps and scrapes the first night until i moved around the layout

Day 3 update, this morning he has some crust, no increase in swelling, it has stayed about the same. I went back at lunchtime and got the crust off his eye and it opened his eye and it stayed open. Im thinking its pink eye, not much as far as discharge, nothing in the nose this entire time and i listened to his breathing, everything is normal on those fronts. he seems to be recovering quickly. I got some colloidal silver i will give him tomorrow. thanks for the advice

Mix 1/3 tsp of sodium chloride (table salt) and 8 drops of 7.5% sodium hypochlorite (bleach) per cup of water and flush the eye out with that solution as eye drops or flush. That will take care of the pinkeye.

bleach is not within organic standards. i will try the silver

when should i re introduce him back into the flock. swelling is going down but appears to be a bit swollen yet, is it ok to put him back into the flock when healing is observed? or how long should i wait
