My rooster is about 6 yrs old and he got into a fight with some animal. 2 days ago and hes eye is really bad. Its swollen and everytime i try to open it, all i see is red. I have been cleaning his eye with water and salt, since right now i dont have saline solution, and i have put some iodine in his eye. I do that 2 a day. Is there anything else i can do to help him?

Some eye ointment would go a long way. Terramycin if you have it (or something that your doctor prescribed for you would work too), plain (non-pain relief) neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment if you don't have or can't get the terramycin.

Okay thanks i have one question what can i do if he happens to grow pus in the eye and is there anything i can give him for pain relief?

His eye may be gone. I would use saline twice a day to flush the eye, and then apply a small dab of either Terramycin eye ointment or plain Neosporin into the eye. To make saline, add 2 tsp of salt to a quart of water, bring to a boil, turn down to simmer for 15 minutes, then cool. Do not use Betadine in the eye.

If it grows pus the pus will have to be manually removed as chickens cannot expel pus on their own. There are videos on this sight that show how to do that. Hopefully getting some ointment in his eye will prevent that. It is a pretty gruesome procedure.

Search this sight for pain management in chickens. Some will suggest meloxicam, but I generally let my chickens self-manage pain so they self-limit.

Putting him in a warm, darkened and comfortable place might help him relax without the worry of the flock over his head.

@Wyorp Rock anything you can add to the conversation?
