Swollen feet! STILL SWOLLEN! SCALES ARE BLACK. MITES???

I have not seen scaly leg mites do that...but my experience was with a flock that had it so bad the toes were dying off....it surely would not hurt to dip them in oil just in case...This is what they looked like.
I think I'm seeing evidence of leg mites on two more hens. They're not swollen at all but some of their leg scales are raised and/or damaged. Can someone confirm from these pics that this is what I'm dealing with?

I am stumped. Maybe someone will see this that may have a clue. You could do a search on gout in chickens. I do know they can get it..just don't really know the symptoms. Maybe if you change your title and put Grossly in front of swollen more people may look?

I found another thread on here about swollen feet. It may just be the cold. It has been VERY cold here the last few days and maybe she's just very sensitive to it. The hens have been walking on solid, frozen.

I'm asking again.......the scales don't look bad? They are raised and dark in the front of the feet and the tops of the toes. After I soaked her feet a scale fell off.

I looked up about gout. It's caused by too much protein in the diet. I'm thinking it's possible, because for some reason my hens haven't laid a single egg in probably the last two month except for Freda, my RIR. She's laying almost every day. I'm still feeding them layer pellets and treat them with sunflower seeds. Maybe this is the cause?

I still don't know what my hen has. Her feet are still swollen and the scales are turning black. Is it scaly leg mites? Damage from the cold temps?

I bought NIX for head lice. It's main ingredient is Permethrin 1%. I read a thread on BYC that the cream was good as treatment for scaly leg mites. What I bought is "cream rinse." The thread said cream, not cream rinse. Is it the same?

Still don't know if I should even be treating for mites or WHAT???

Someone PLEASE help!

here is a nice link for reading about scaley leg

I am really not seeing lifted scales in the pics. But if you see them with your eyes as you are there looking at the birds then I'd go ahead and coat the legs.

I personally use mineral oil (vegetable oil works too) for two weeks, dipping each leg every day to smother the mites. Toward the end of the two weeks I do it every other day.

Also I have learned that smearing oil on the combs/wattles is good too as these mites attack the facial area sometimes.

The swelling concerns me and I don't know what that would be.
