This is Eleanor the Ameraucana. I have just noticed over the past couple of days she has a fat leg. It feels somewhat squishy on the front side. There are a couple of bumps on the back side of the leg that aren't on her opposite leg, but it doesn't look like the pictures I've seen of bumblefoot. Can anyone guess what mght be wrong? She is 15 weeks old and is acting normal. I even saw her jump up onto a ladder and jump back down. Just not sure what it is or what to do about it, if anything.

what in the name of silkies:eek::eek::eek:

So, she is not limping or holding the leg up? It is very swollen and I would wonder if it was fractured. There is a condition called marble leg syndrome in which both lower legs are swollen and hard. This does not sound like the same thing. I would think the cut on the back of the leg is due to an injury, and that it is swollen from that.

I wonder about an insect bite since she's otherwise normal and active?
An insect bite is something i hadn't thought of.

Nope, no limping, and I've witnessed her weight bearing on just the affected leg at times.

This was my best guess, but she's still active, and I don't feel anything other than swelling. Could be a hairline fracture. Do chickens get stress fractures? She is a super light weight little girl. She just looks big with all the fluffy white feathers.

There actually isn't a cut. There are just two bumps, with the lower one having yellowish skin on the outer edge of it. She hasn't had an open wound.

Now what to do about it? Splint? Antibiotic? I have already waited a few days, and i see no change at all. I am wondering if she might be developing an infection from a superficial injury. Can that be?
