Syringing a feisty chicken with back injuries?

I've given antibiotics and pain meds several times to chickens, but I'm having problems syringing a feisty rooster. He was attacked by a dog and has shallow scars on his back and keister, so I can't hold him in the usual way(s). I've managed to spray his eye, wattles, and chest. I just can't get the medication into his beak. Any ideas? He's not aggressive--just rather put out at the whole idea of the syringe, and of course I can't blame him.

The safest way is drop drops on the side of his beak and let them pull them in. With a rooster like that I'd probably put the medicine on a bit of bread and let him take it himself.

Thanks so much. I'll try mixing it with some of his favorite food...hamburger, oatmeal, yogurt, or my Mom's homemade bread.
