Tatanka Breeders Club: Meat Quail project with history, discussion, pictures and videos

Moby, I've recently been in contact with a potential "new" steward in the east. I will be sending out 6 dozen or so to ensure a great start. I currently have over 300 eggs in my incubators right now and expect the first ones to start zippin' on Sunday. In the next couple of weeks I should be able to send out some more to anybody that you may have found that needs them. Let me know if you need the backup.

this is awesome... really awesome. and tonya has some history to share thats gonna split the uprights... this thing has legs people...and looks like a big flippin quail

if i can get out from under this job that i work 65 hours a week at... i would like to help add colors to the mix... i currently raise the roux/Cinnamon's and the reds and would love to get them bred up to this size... i have followed this thread and the quail co-op thread from day one but with my work schedule i mostly just lurk...

hello, 65+ you got me, Im usually around 55+. Welcome aboard! thanks for droppin in.

I like the roux too, very pretty birds, I do have 2 young standard sized females, im thinking about breeding to a large white male if I get one from these testcrosses.

and I was thinking about this, I really cant do another color...if I get a larger white male, I will cross with these 2 roux hens, and ship you all the eggs if you want? they wont be huge eggs from the standard hens and I wouldnt expect whoppers the first time out, but its another bloodline for ya if you want.

seriously, it would keep me focused on the browns, whites and splits, which is all the math I can do right now.

holler, TD

i am working on quiting the job and getting an operating loan threw the USDA farm service agency and farming full time... if it all works out i would love to do that... ill keep in touch and keep reading this thread...

slow and steady buddy, slow and steady.

build on a rock solid foundation, measure twice cut once, and best of luck to you. I will be watching.

lil update, we have about 30 F2 chicks from the pairing of the largest split roo with the largest split hen and P1 white hen. About even brown to white numbers.

collected eggs for 3 weeks and set them every couple days. I got like 4 bins full of fuzzy butts, sub-adults and even ones that just hit their growth spurt stage.

Ive been updating the spreadsheet with numbers. According to the data, we are definitely still headed forward.

"Get Them As Big As They Can Get".

A Founding Quote:

That top weight was 13.8 oz at 6 weeks old. I don't care what they weight after 7 weeks, but that's my birds. I have to top that weight with this second group as well. Nothing like competing against yourself. So hurry up and Get Them As Big As They Can Get. I want some competition.

10g gain from day 17-18

she went from 176g to 186g in 24 hours.

the period from 3 weeks (21 days) to 6 weeks (42 days) should put about 6+ more ounces on her.

I may isolate her and 1-2 others and give them the Cleopatra treatment.
