The link states that they'll take your odometer reading when you renew your plates. Then the following year they will tax you on the mileage.
Aren't odometers mostly electronic now? Would be kind of hard to mess with that,if so.

It is against the law already to turn your odometer back..

anyhow, they would track you by GPS. just like many company vehicles are already being tracked..

And raise your hand if you think they are going to eliminate the state and federal tax on gas and deisel fuel.. yeah right,, like that is going to happen..

GPS tracking for mileage,, ?? really?? sort of a back door way to track every individual in the country.. ?????

Rolling back is illegal but unhooking it is not. An the digital ones are no harder to tamper with. An GPS only works if it can get a signal? Watch "The Condemned"(spelling) an see how hard it is to block. 2 or 3 sheets of paper would probably do it.

Didn't the original post say that Obama said NO? If that is the case I would say that it won't happen. They will find other ways to fix the roads. Raise the tax on liquor maybe.

If the tax is mileage based there should be a class based on weight. The heavier vehicles are harder on the road. That also gives an incentive for buying more fuel efficient cars.

yes, heavier vehicles are harder on the road,,,but not much and we do need them to deliver all those things we need from walmart..and I for one will not give up the 3/4 ton chevy pickup..we need it to haul our horse trailer and the only thing we do all summer is take the horses camping..would be pretty hard to pull a 3 horse L/Q trailer with my suzuki XL7..

Haven't you noticed that gas and cigarrette taxes are different state to state? State law over rides federal law. The feds aren't interested, the states might be.
