Tell me why you keep Roosters...

The ones here were because of straight runs of silkies, they are pets, otherwise i don't want or need them. I get only sexed hens for myself, the silkies all belong to my oldest child.

Silkies seem to have a propensity for roosterhood, my daughter-in-law got five straight run silkies and all five were boys. My neighbor got six straight run and four of those were roosters. It seems to be a trend for I am seeing it reported a lot.

Silkie roosters tend to be sweeter than the hens in my experience. I only have one silkie boy left at the moment. He's such a good rooster to his tiny flock. I do have to keep them separate because he was getting in fights with my head ameraucana rooster. I think they've settled their differences as there aren't any issues anymore when they free range together. The silkie has accepted he can't win and yields to the head honcho. He will however kick the younger ameraucana's butts if they come near his pen.

I have a blue andelusian rooster whom I am loving on. he's about 4 months old, andelusians are normally pretty skiddish, but I can pick him up and love on him. he doesn't try too hard to get away. here he is as a baby.

I keep them cause i love to have fertile eggs thats for sure, but also they are so beautiful even though they can be obnoxiousness i still love my boys

the above baby rooster had a son, who is now about 9 weeks old and starting to get mean. the above blue andelusian was not. it could be because he is confined, I will let them play outside soon.

You mean you shot the mink, or what. Here's my little story:

I forgot to close up the chicken house a few days ago. Next morning, as I headed for their lodgings and little enclosure (the gate was open, too), I saw white feathers all over the place. Uh oh. The 4 Delaware hens were all OK though behaving kind of spooked but Mr. Delaware - what a beauty! - had only some blood on his leg and strutted about like nothing happened. He's doing fine now, just missing some feathers. Heh, heh. Nothing like a rooster! Whatever had designs on my birds is long gone.
